I am trying to use the kick start. What wire needs to be energized to the coils and where can I find it?

How do you bypas an ignition switch to start '77 xs650

i have taken the starter button off the bike, I'm running bare bones electrics. I just tried it running the 12v to the red'wht and tried to kick start it, it just kind of rolled over once, but didn't start, how can I activate the starter with a 12v wire?

How do you bypas an ignition switch to start '77 xs650

Does anyone know how I can bypass my ignition switch? I have a stock '77 xs and I want to bypass the switch so that I can just get 12 volts straight to the starter.

Looking for ideas for a cool tank that sits low on the frame.

Anyone have ideas for a cool tank that isn't a wassell or a peanut that looks pretty cool and sits low on the frame? There is a video of a guy with a 62 ducati 250 wide case enduro tank. It looks sweet, but I can't seem to find one. This is about what i'm thinking though. Let me know if you have...

Every time I try to start my bike, the main fuse blows

Just checked the wires, everything looks clean and yes, I ran red/white directly to brown to bypass the switch. Still blowing fuses though, just after she gets firing too.

Every time I try to start my bike, the main fuse blows

Now, I ran the brown to the red/white and turned the ignition on with everything else attached and it was fine. I attempted to kick start it a few times but it's cool out today so I just pressed the start button instead and it started up for a second, then blew the fuse. I did run the red wire...

Every time I try to start my bike, the main fuse blows

Now I'm a little confused, I thought the ignition circuit gets power from the 12v red wire. I was also under the impression that the red/yellow sends power to the headlights. I traced the brown wire from my kill switch and it meets up with the brown wire from the front brake switch then goes...

    Kill Switch Issue

Jayel, I started a new thread because I felt that it was a separate issue, i.e. not a fuse issue, like on my last thread. I didn't intend to step on any toes, just trying to keep my posts on topic. Any and all help is appreciated.

Every time I try to start my bike, the main fuse blows

I connected the wires from the kill switch together, the brown and the red/white, and it blows the fuse as soon as I turn the ignition on. Is there a way I can bypass it?

    Kill Switch Issue

My stock '77 xs650 quit running on me yesterday and it took me a lot of trial and error to figure out that my kill switch was the culprit. The plastic inside the switch broke into 3 pieces so it is useless and isn't allowing me to start the bike. How can I bypass it to get my bike started?

Every time I try to start my bike, the main fuse blows

Ok, I jumped all of the wires and I think I may know what the problem is. When I wired the kill switch brown wire, the fuse blew. I think the kill switch is my issue. How can I get rid of it or bypass it or wire it to allow me to start the bike?

Every time I try to start my bike, the main fuse blows

I pulled the rectifier completely off and it looks good to me, all of the connections are still intact. There is a little corrosion but no big deal. I will try wiring the jumpers directly and I'll let you know the result. Just a question, I have a broken kill switch, is there any way to bypass...

Every time I try to start my bike, the main fuse blows

No, it did not blow when the red wire was disconnected. The only time it blows is when I plug in the red wire to the ignition switch at the headlight bucket. I currently have the ignition switch removed and the fuse is perfectly fine. I am also reading 12.68 volts at the red wire at the bucket...

Every time I try to start my bike, the main fuse blows

Ok, so I took the ignition switch off and took it apart. It's pretty clean, looks brand new actually. I also tested it for continuity and everything checked out the way it should. I guess the next step is checking out this rectifier. Where can I find it and how can I check to see if it's good or...

Every time I try to start my bike, the main fuse blows

Ok, I just tested each of the circuits and this is what I've got. It only blows when the red wire, the 12 volt constant" is hooked up. does this mean that my ignition switch is bad? when it is disconnected and I test the wire at the headlight basket I read good voltage from the battery and fuse...
