    Points Timing

No first time rebuilding it though,I have new cam chain and new points, gaps are set at .012-.015...and im almost certain im not a tooth off on the cam since i checked cam timing with a degree wheel. I feel im missing something stupid but im out of ideas. i just need a tad more movement out of...

    Points Timing

Thanks for the response 5twins.. bike is starting on first kick and running relatively well but with timing light on rotor at an idle it still seems to be hitting at TDC instead of at the fire mark and im all out of room to turn my points backing plate. any ideas on what could be the issue??

    Points Timing

I have read in other threads its best to check with a light to see when points start to open and this got it closer so now opening right at TDC which still isnt correct but its a step in the right direction. I also tried holding my advance weights open which takes up that "Play" in the advance...

    Points Timing

Hi all, running into an issue with timing my 75 xs. I am currently trying to time the right cylinder points at the fire mark. i have the plugs out and valve covers off and am just rotating the motor counterclockwise with a wrench on the flywheel to see when the points spark..i believe this is...

    piston "dead spot"

Alright, at TDC I set my degree wheel at 0. I set an indicator on top of the left (rotor) side intake valve tappet. I start to rotate the rotor counter clockwise just like the service manual says and instantly the intake starts opening...Which to my understanding it shouldnt be opening until 36...

    piston "dead spot"

Yes while at TDC, thanks for the response guys...I am curious though there does not seem to be an equal amount of "dwell" in each way you rotate the rotor. It seems to have more dwell when the rotor is rotated one way over the other. The only thing i can think of is being 1 tooth off on the cam...

    piston "dead spot"

Hi guys just finishing up putting my top end back together on my 75. I am checking the timing with a degree wheel just to make sure things are set right before putting engine back into frame. while at TDC there is a slight lag or dead spot in the piston travel although the intake valve is...

    Riserless Bars for my XS

Really liking the look of riserless handle bars for my 75' XS, just curious to get some feedback on which type of grommet to use in the actual top triple clamp. Or if turning down some homemade rubber bushings would work?? Any feedback would be much appreciated!!
