I am in the middle of a rebuild and found a crack on the lower case on the outer portion of the crank bearing seat. Not sure how this would happen and I was trying to decide to TIG weld it up or replace the cases. Also noticed a lot of scoring on one of the other bearing seats. Any opinions?
Hey everybody, so a couple months ago i bought a 1982 xs650 from my boss (i work at a very small motorcycle shop outside of Atlanta) the bike cosmetically was a little off, but it ran amazing. Only about 9000 miles and started first kick everytime. I came to realize this week that my rotor is...
I have done quite a bit of troubleshooting to find this problem but no luck so help me out.
I can ride for about 30 miles engine gettin hot and ill lose spark in my right cylinder and ill stay without spark for sometimes along time (5+mins) and other times a short time (1-2mins). i can ride...
Hey guys hoping someone can give me some insight as to what is going on here so I can get this thing rolling today asap.
Yesterday I pulled the clutch to replace a worn shift shaft. While in there I scotch brighted the plates and discs, replaced the springs, modded the bolts to allenheads and...
My 1980 XS with Stock ignition and fuel system is having trouble revving. I can't go past 4000 rpm, whether I am cruising down the road, or if its in neutral in my driveway. It almost feels like the bike cuts off temporarily, like when you bump start it, but it won't start. But as far as I...
New to me 78 XS650. The PO's dad put a 750 kit into it (80 mm bore). The cylinders need at least a honing, but I cannot find new rings to fit the vintage 80 mm pistons.
I would like to take it back to stock. I think the cam is stock, but thought I'd ask the group if it truly is.
Is my cam...
I don't have access to a soda blaster at the moment. Just wondering a safe and easy way to clean the crud from pistons? I've read that furniture stripper is good. How about the aerosol gasket remover?
New to me '78 with 11,000 miles. I got this bike as a short term project - my wife says that 1 vintage motorcycle (my '74 RD350) is enough (and I agree).
It had light smoking from one cylinder so I tore down the top end yesterday so that I can replace the valve seals. While I was in there, I...
Hi Guys,
Recently did a little work that included changing the gaskets on the sump plate and the bendix gear cover (I think I've got the right terminology, just below and to the right of the drive sprocket). Anyway, I wasn't expecting the gear to come out when I pulled the cover off (should...
HELP!!!
I have a 77 xs650 w/ pamco ignition, PMA charging system (no battery just a capacitor), open 1.5" exhaust, vm34's and velocity stacks (I have forgotten the jetting specs but they were purchased from 650 central and I have not changed jetting).. besides these parts the motor is...
Ok, here's the deal...
I'm relatively new to the world of XS's I bought mine last summer and rode it until inclement weather forced me to garage it. I decided to take this as an opportunity to do a little maintenance over the winter. I winterized the bike, and a couple months later pulled...
:banghead:
I've got a 1980 tacker with Ascot Pipes, XS intakes, carbs tuned accordingly, Omar.s front/rear wheel conversion. I've had it about a year and other than some a minor short in the rear light and a clogged petcock, it's been running like a top ...until I just changed the oil last...
Hey guys!
Picked up that 1981 Special II on Sunday. It looked in great shape, started up easy and didn't seem to have any problems, so I made the purchase. I drove it home (about 40 miles) on city and highway and it felt great. I did feel a bit of a speed wobble on the freeway at 70-75mph...
I had a mechanic friend do a top end rebuild on my 81. I brought the motor home and put the bike together. I put a charged battery in put a bit of fuel in and then kick and kicked till i was tired out. I moved the pamco and it fired but wouldnt run right. I had the pamco all the way to one end...
I rode my '81/H today for the first time in a couple of months. I had been riding my Hondas during that time as the XS650 had its PAMCO ignition removed while I developed a new advance rod for the E-Advancer that is simpler and cheaper. So, it was good to get back in the XS650 saddle. I like my...
