    Project XS650 - Restoration

So I picked up my first XS650 a couple of days ago as a project bike to help learn more about the inner workings of a motorcycle as well as provide myself with a new project (I restored my 1979 Glastron in the past) The bike is a '78 that has definitely seen better days, the previous owner...

New guy, new (to me) bike, and the future.

Heres what $400 buys ya if youre lucky. PROS: Only 21k on the clock. Straight title. Really clean. Starts on first kick. Little rough in the shifting department, but Im pretty sure I know whats wrong there. Pulls hard, and idles perfectly. Almost ZERO rust anywhere. CONS: Had to buy a...

Project Improvise - We'll see which way this goes...

I picked up my first XS650, a 1981 Special, a few weeks ago, and have been reading threads on this forum ever since, trying to learn as much as I can. I'm not exactly sure what this bike will look like when I'm "done" (like that ever really happens), but I can't ever leave well enough alone, so...

Anyone know any XS's in this style?

Like old swingarm style Triumph bobbers, with a solo seat and pillion for the passenger. It seems like a cool way to go, as I've had a hard time finding a good way to carry a passenger without getting a huge 70's xs seat off ebay, and I personally love these style bikes. I'd still probably run...

Help! My carbs are out of the holders, and I'm running out of ideas!

1974 XS650B I am a relatively new bike owner and I picked up my darling a couple months ago, this is either a new occurrence or I didn't notice this at the time of purchase (probably the latter). The carbs are not in the carb holders. I've taken the seals off of the holders and tried to push...

    Scissor / Torsion Spring Direction

So what's the consensus on the direction of scissor/torsion springs? I think I like the coil forward better as it give the seat the illusion of floating. These new springs are "heavy duty" and wow, are they much stiffer than the cheapo coil springs I had on before. So, what are your opinions...

Hello all just thought I'd post a couple pics of the yard sale find my wife got for me for a measely 50.00, Turns out it's a friend of her's old bike. I need to get a title yet but it seemed cheap enough. It does't run at this time it has real weak spark and the carbs are pretty bad. It is a...

Damaged Speedometer Gear Parts, Proper Re-Assembly

I recently bought a new speedometer cable from Mikesxs for my XS650C. After disconnecting the old cable, I removed 3 parts (see attached images) from the speedometer drive gearbox housing. It appears that some wear/damage that has occurred to the following parts: 1) Bushing (brass)...

    first time

My daughter visited this week and talked me into letting her try riding a bike. This morning we went out to the university, (big parking lots) went over the basics and away she went. She says she is going to take the MSF coarse later this summer in Minneapolis. Frankly, I'm not keen on her...

    Looking for a cafe seat

I'm looking to replace the seat on my 78 XS650 with a cafe-style seat, and found one I really liked the look of on a random forum. It seems their admin is long gone, because my account for the site still hasn't been confirmed after two weeks, so I figured I'd copy the link and see if you folks...

Finally got my own XS650. Picture to prove it!

It's taken me weeks to finally save up enough to get this 1979 XS650. So far I've had it for one day and it isn't too bad. I like it. It's different than anything else I've ridden. I've only taken one picture, but I'll be adding more.

    Build Thread - 1978 XS650 Special Edition

Hey folks, First post on this fantastic forum here today. I've been reading for a couple of days, but wanted to have pics ready for when I made my first post. A bit about me - I've ridden dirt bikes and motorcycles, but I'm far from what I'd say 'pro' in any way. I've done almost no...
