I need carb holders with vacuum barbs for my 78E. Mike's XS has them without the barbs for 74-78, with barbs for 74-77. Anyone know why the barbed carb holders wouldn't work on my 78E? Build date for my bike was October 77 if that makes any difference.
I've had this bike 20 years, time to get it on the road.

Hello 78E.
What an awesome, original 78E you have there :yikes:
I have one as well. Your BS38 carbs are linked. I believe that linked system started in 76.
Perhaps Mikes XS fitment of 74 to 77 is referring to the "Standard" model, which did not have vacuum barbs. Question, does Mikes XS show carb holders with barbs for a 78 "Special" ? Or 79. Those models also were equipped with the same BS38'S as the 78E "Standard" model. Same barbed carb holders.

That '74-'77 barbed carb holder set must be something new, I've never seen it before. The only difference between the '74-'77 holders and the '78-'79 ones is the barbs on the later, so that set should fit your '78 carbs.

When I replaced the ones on my '78 many years ago, Mike's was out of the '78-'79 barbed holders. I had to get the '74-'77 set with no barbs. I transferred the barbs from my old original set to the new holders. It was just a matter of removing them from the old holders (pressing them out), drilling suitably sized holes (slightly smaller than the barbs) in the new holders, and pressing them in. I put Yamabond in the holes and on the barbs before pressing them in to insure thy sealed up good. They've held up fine now for many years.
