advancing solid state timing

I saw some where it is better to advance the solid atate timing but can't find a thread. Can anyone help me?
 
Think twice about that. For advice on evaluating ignition timing from one of the world's great tuners, see Gordon Jennings' article on spark plug reading at www.strappe.com .
 
Yes, but Pamcopete's reg/rec mods are less expensive and the reg has a warranty. Made from locally purchased parts that are available all over.
As Grizld1 says, advancing the timing can lead to trouble. I and some others prefer to avoid the trouble by retarding the timing a few degrees.
