Smells of Raw Fuel
I've got a couple Mosin-Nagants. Quite a nice rifle.
Eddyville prison in Kentucky? Is there another prison by that name? I had an uncle of some generations back sent to the electric chair there for murder. A cold-blooded hillbilly revenge ambush in the woods.
My first ancestors that I know of were here in 1710, as German Palatine refugees sent to the Hudson Valley. I like to watch Last of the Mohicans because they lived in that area in that time frame.
Modern has nothing to do with it. Rifled barrel muzzleloaders are just accurate. You just need to be able to squeeze the trigger and sing a chorus of 'Stairway to Heaven' without flinching after an explosion 2" from your eye while waiting for the powder to go boom to be accurate.I don't know about the other states but here in Florida blackpowder rifles and pistols are not firearms go figure. I have both and enjoy shooting them as well. and a modern muzzel loader hits what its aimed at just like firearms go figure

Every time this happens people living where they can't own guns want us to be like them.
I think population has a lot to do with it too. Texas has 22 million people same as all of Australia. The US has 311 million people. More people equals more violence.
The US is something like 10th in the world for its gun-death rate and is 3rd in population (behind China and India)
Japan has the 2nd lowest death by firearm rate and is 10th in population.
And of course its population is very densely packed.
Many of the lowest ranked gun-death countries have very high population densities (e .g. Singapor).
So, it doesn't seem that population is much of a factor in the RATE.
OK, I stayed out of this until now . Bill , you say that you sell guns part time and do background checks on buyers , right ? So, where do felons get their guns ? From so called "law abiding gun owners " that's where . Keep that in mind , criminals and crazy people have no problem finding upstanding citizens to buy guns from . Hard to tell the "good guys " from the "bad guys " when the "good guys " ain't really any good.I think population has a lot to do with it too. Texas has 22 million people same as all of Australia. The US has 311 million people. More people equals more violence.
And I'll say it again. If we can't stop drugs and humans crossing over a river that is guraded, how are we going to curb gun violence? Even if we outlaw all of them?
Carbon, you do know that the USA has the highest per capita prison inmate population in the world ? 25% of the WORLDS prison population is in the US . So, you might not be chopping heads off or stoning people , but you really can't point fingers . Compared to all other developed countries in the world the USA is barbaric. (Sorry for bursting your bubble , but you would have found out sooner or later )I would not want to live in a country where run like a kingdom. when you live in a place like that, the people are at the mercy of the government. And as history shows thats not a good thing. If anyone needs a refresher course watch this. AND DON'T FORGET IT!
Cool, I wasn't trying to be hostile Bill, I addressed you because you seem to have a better understanding about the gun culture than some folks on here do. Hell, I am not even anti gun , but it should be obvious that more people with more guns is not making society safer . I was a trucker for a long time . I stopped going Stateside many years ago . I like a lot of things in the States and met some great people but the national pass seems to be paranoia and is only getting worse. And again, we can keep arguing and yelling and typing and whatever about guns. But until our "leaders" do something about it, more people will be killed. So, until then. I'm going to go eat something that used to have a face.
