Carb problem after rebuild

Never had very stable carbs (mikuni solex bS38 - 1972 XS2) so ordered a repair kit.
Changed mixture screws, float needles, jets etc etc but noticed that the diaphragm were not in great condition (a couple of small punctures so will need to order this as well)

All done and mounted back. Set mixture scews on both side at one turn out.

Started the engine but the right exhaust is heavily backfiring. Waited for the engine to warm up but same thing. The only way to reduce this is by turning the mixture screw all the way in.

So
Right cylinder doesńt die when mixture screw is turned in
Spark plug is all wet

Is it possible that the diaphragm poor condition enduced the right cylinder to be too rich?

If not any other idea of xhat might cause this, bearing in lind that the carb has been cleaned and rebuilt? :banghead:

i did wonder about float levels... But how...?
Not sure i understand how they can make carburation too rich... To much fuel going through?

The control fuel level in the bowls. If it gets high enough, it will spill over into the intake ports. Read the carb guide, it will tell you level. I prefere to set it with the clear tube methos vs. Measuring. Measuring is a good baseline though.
