Has anyone ordered a set of piston rings for a 256 motor from cruzinimage? If so, I'm looking to see if you found out what material the rings were, and what hone grit was recommended for a simple re-ringing job. Thank you.
I think you'll need to consider the ring thicknesses.
Early 70-73 '256' rings had a 1.5mm top ring.
Then, for the TX650A, the rings changed.
From there, '74-on, the '447' rings used a thinner 1.2mm top ring.
I believe that the CruzinImage '256' rings are of the '447' design.
Which means that their '256' pistons are unique, and will only use the '447' rings...
So the rings that they sell for a 72 xs2 may not fit the stock pistons? Here is the link to the set I am looking at. http://www.ebay.com/itm/70-73-YAMAH...m2590e01c90:m:mZ_WXbQwFxMKRyKwUpcPX4g&vxp=mtr
I'm hoping these will work and just wanted to know what grit hone to use. I have a 280 grit and am hoping it will be suitable for these rings.
Hi ,I bought a set of these 2 years ago for my xs2.
All I did was to have the barrels very lightly honed at a local garage,no idea about what grit was used but mine are standard size Pistons
As far as I remember the only difference I could see was that the new rings are not marked which way up to insert.
So far all seems good .
