Cutting the frame

Just about to cut the stock frame of my 82 to prep for the attaching of a hardtail from g&l. Just wondering if I just try and figure it out up against the frame or is there a specific measurement or place to make the cut on the stock frame? Other wise I am just going to cut it with room to spare and just keep grinding away until its just right. Just realized how retarded this question probably sounds to some of you guys. New to this.

I understand. Make some rough cuts then like you said, cut and grind away until it fits to your liking.

I would call the manufacturer for the directions before I cut anything

And keep in mind it is a lot easier to cut off some more if you left too much on, then to add it back on if you cut off too much.
