End of the Road in Erieau
MaxPete, Total Fool and I try to avoid getting a foot wet from the waves coming over the edge of the dock.
Beautiful spot.
I wanna go there !
As he said, that photo of Lakeview being attacked by Lake Erie was in Erieau ON, which we learned today was a coal depot for the C&O Railroad which had a line running between Detroit and Niagara Falls. The picturesque town of Erieau (pron. "Eerie-o") is now just an out of the way enclave of summer cottages, a few pretty little buildings and some really excellent pubs and fish and chips diners. You haven't lived till you've had an Erieau F&C dinner.
Anyhow, Lucille and I rode from east from Windsor and Total Fool and his snazzy 2007 Yamaha VStar 650 came west from London (not that one, the other one) and we met at Lakeview's country estate on the outskirts of North Buxton, ON at 2:00 PM. After much faffing around trying to get our three Cardo Packtalk Bold communications systems linked, we finally settled for:
...and we set off. I gotta say - these systems are superb and totally change the riding experience - and I would never ride without one again. If you haven't tried a comm system - don't knock 'em till you do. My total mileage for the day was 191.3 which is just over 307 KM - a pretty good haul for a 62 year old @ss on a 44 year old bike IMO.
- Pete can talk to Lakeview and Total Fool and,
- each of them can talk to Pete
NOTE re: linking three of them: Among us - we have a BA, a law degree and at least five (really!!) engineering degrees and we could NOT-NOT-NOT get these f@cking machines to all talk to each other. Next time, we'll hire a snot-nosed 7-year old kid to figure it out for us.
Anyhow, here are some photos from the day - and we are home safe and sound now after many fun miles. All of the bikes ran perfectly (except of course Lucille who missed quite badly for about 15 seconds at one point - and then cleared-up and was fine. I don't know why she does that - but she just about always does - stupid old bag ).

Lakeview (a recovering lawyer - so if he can't figure it out - how the he!! are a couple of super-annuated engineers ever going to?) puzzling over the complex instructions in the GD%#&# Cardo manual.

Lakeview on his '76C - juuuuusssst before the big wave hit and gave him a pretty good "soaker".

Great ride report Pete! Looks beautiful up there in the land of green. You sure have gotten your moneys worth out of Lucille!
more “stimulating” moments than a loose cheerleader at a drive-in movie.
...I wish I could figure why, on nearly every ride longer than about an hour, she stumbles and f@rts and misses usually just for a few seconds but sometimes for a minute or two - and then clears up and runs strong again...
Pete, had a similar problem years ago, traced to loose bullet connectors at the ignition coils...
Nice! Thanks Greg.Yesterday went for a ride. Stopped and took a few pics for Jim. The statue of Chief Blackhawk that overlooks the Rock River. A few months ago the tarps came off of it. It had a multi-year restoration. Almost 50 feet tall. Very well know landmark in the area.

Clogged vent in the gas cap?Yes I have Bob - and she’s given me more “stimulating” moments than a loose cheerleader at a drive-in movie.
I wish I could figure why, on nearly every ride longer than about an hour, she stumbles and f@rts and misses usually just for a few seconds but sometimes for a minute or two - and then clears up and runs strong again. She always starts willingly (although the hair clip needs a squeeze right now) and she idles fine and is ready to go as soon as I am - but that stumble always comes up an hour or so later - almost like I have run low on main and need to go on reserve - and then it’s over again with no action on my part.
Oh well - she has had a hard life as I’ve said before - or maybe she just wants to dominate me.
