A chance find on eBay and a lowball bid landed me with about 30% of an engine last month.
Now after some wheeling and dealing I've bagged about another big pile of engine bits.
The vendor seems to think that he has a set of crankcases, some carbs, and a couple of clutches yet to be found.
I reckon that with some diligence(and expense), I can build a running XT/SR engine out of this lot.
So the big question is what to put it in when it's finally built ?
I don't have a XT500 or SR500 rolling chassis to hand, and they seem to be fetching big money at present.
I'm thinking that maybe I could shoehorn the engine into a different frame.
But just what eludes me at present.

Monkey bike :boxing:
Not as ridiculous as it sounds.
A while ago some, ahem, Special person built a Lambretta powered by a Harley Sportster.
Well no actually.
That's not strictly true.
You can't actually get a Sportster engine into a Lambretta.
So he scaled up a Lambretta until the Harley engine would fit within.
How to spend a lot of time and money in order to offend just about everyone !

I've got a semi mutillated 650 Special frame chucked down the bottom of the garden, but I think the twin XS downtubes would foul the path of the XT exhaust.
What a pity.
Alternatively, I've got a raked unit Triumph frame with a bolt on hard tail.
I'm not sure that the tall XT motor would squeeze in though.
Until I get a set of crankcases I can't even build a "dummy" engine to experiment with
