Not quite sure if it is the starter of the gear. When i turn the bike over to start it sometimes it turns over and other times it is like the gears don't line up and it just grinds. Not sure if it is the bendix in the starter, or if it is the starter gear itself. Any help is appreciated.

Most find the #4 gear and weak clip spring to be the problem.
Not terrible to fix or replace the gear.
Drain the oil. Remove the right side. Then the clutch to access the gear.
My experience is it doesn't have to lose much tooth area to become a problem but there are others with more hands on than me.
If you choose to try to tighten the clip spring as the fix first, before replacing the gear, leave the spring on the gear to recrimp it. And you may want to pull the coil spring alittle?

Or I may have read your post wrong.

The electric starter system uses gears and a shaft to hook the starter motor to the teeth on the crank shaft.
The kick start uses gears in the tranny and the clutch to turn the engine.
There is no interconnecting parts. If the electric starter makes noise it has nothing to do with the kick start.
