Hey guys,

So here's an update on my build off bike, which is also for a client. I spent the night tonight finishing welding up the frame, fabbing up the beginning of its electronics box under the seat, welded that in, then built it all back up to a roller with the engine in.

Need some opinions on tank style. Mustang vs. Peanut

Honestly for ME its easy, I prefer the peanut tank as is,

However if I mod the mustang, and lower the front end so it sits like the peanut does in the frame, It may be close call.

Added a quick pic of my very first TIG welding job without any help, for all those welders out there (only done it twice before this, so for tube work and being such a noob I'm pretty happy with it :D (that bottom rail wasn't me lol) )

Anyway Give me a vote on which tank you prefer

Thanks.

Hey, JP, my vote would be for pic #2, but with tank nudged forward 1" - 1 1/2".
I ran a mustang like your #1 for awhile, good for long dist mileage, but didn't please my eye.
Never done tig, on my list, did you do that with foot controller or torch controller?

I vote peanut, only because it fits closer to the frame.

Question: is it not possible to lower the Mustang tank closer to the frame? I ask because I have one of the peanut tanks myself, but have thought of getting a different Paughco one (like the Mustang) that has slightly greater volume. But I wouldn't want it to have to be perched up like that.

Anyway, good luck with your project.
:)

You guys are all seeing exactly what I'm seeing. ha The mustang sits way too high like this. If i cut out the tunnel, extend the hole, and weld in a new tunnel I can get it to sit like the peanut tank and at that point I think it'd be pretty cool cuz I have never seen one that sits like that. (if there is one available someone raise a hand)

and TwoMany That was hand torch control... off a little 60 or 80 amp (can't remember). Took me a bit longer than i woulda liked but it turned out nice i think. I then moved on to welding in a piece of sheet metal, I didn't cut it perfectly so it had a gap on most of it and trying to fill that gap without burning up the sheet proved to be extremely difficult lol. the one flush side I had welded really nice and the rest is a hot mess....but nothing a little die grinding can't fix.

I'm running a narrow 2.2 gal mustang. Perfect if you're going to use the stock top engine mount. I like the way the mustangs sit. So i vote mustang.

Seeing as you are asking opinions, mine is they both look like crap. So does a hardtail.
Put it back to stock with a stock tank.

Stop sugar coating it, Leo. Tell us what you really think

The peanut tank sits better, but if the mustang was tunneled it would look cool.

Peanut as it sits or Closest to the seat as possible.

I should mention that, that is not the seat going on this bike. Just had it lying around so I used it for a mock up. And yes....the mustang as it sits does look like a tumor  However imagine it dropped into the frame like the peanut is. And yes I have condidered the aliens but I'm just not a big fan.

I agree with most of you. I like the peanut tank, but the guy i'm building it for has his heart set on that dang mustang tank...no clue why but I guess that's what we're going with on this one. Just got in contact with him today to discuss it. He's stationed over in afghanistan so it's always tricky trying to line things up with him.

Anyway Thanks for the replies guys. If it were mine I'd go peanut, but it aint ha.
