Can’t see from your pics, but are your bars blacked out like the rest of your bike? If so you may need to grind some paint off under the left control to regain your ground.
..... and under the right control too so that ground can travel through the bars to/for your start button. The wire clip in the bottom half of each control assembly is what gets the ground to or from the bars .....
Working on my '83 recently, I discovered Yamaha did the same thing. Studying wiring diagrams, it seems Yamaha added a dedicated ground wire for the start button to the right switch assembly starting with the '82 model .....
Since the headlight on-off switch and all it's associated wiring had been removed a few years earlier, there was now plenty of room to put one additional wire back in there.
