Oil seal removal guidance

Long story short...barn fresh bike = every seal leaked.

I am curious though..any guidance on popping out the starter oil seal and the shift linkage seal on the bottom case on the left side? (1981 special...short bus special) neither of them want to budge. everything else seems to have come rather easily with a good push/tug from a well placed screwdriver, but these two are kinda being pricks.

I'm usually one for the motto if it doesn't move, force it...and it it breaks, it needed replacing anyways, but I have always found that GENTLY removing oil seals is a wise move. any advice from the wise ones on the board or should I just pry harder?

or I just grow a pair and stop pussy footing around...and actually hit the damn things hard enough to deform... they come right out.

Can you run a sheetmetal screw into it and pull it out that way?
