Part identification help. Little embarrassed...

Hi Guys,

Ok let me start of by saying that I know the engineers are smarter than I, that all parts should usually be treated with equal importance, and that cutting corners will result in nothing but heartache and damage over the long run. That being said, can someone help me understand what this clip does? From what I can tell by looking at it, it deflects the oil in the head by the timing chain.

Why am I asking? Well, I got my engine all buttoned up, timed and in my bike, then noticed this sitting on the back of my bench. Am I going to have to take it all apart again? (I know the answer but am asking on the 1 in a million chance it's not vital.)

That's the baffle for the breather. You can try running without it but you may get excess oil coming out the breather hoses. All you can do is try I guess.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I will likely get all of the ignition and PMA dialed in and then tear it back down for its installation.
