Put wires going to the ignition coil together 78 xs650

1978 xs650 I accidentally put the wires going to the ignition coil together (like the 2 wires coming from the points together) and tried to start it for a min. I put it back the right way and now I don't get a spark from either plug. I think I fried something, but not sure what I fried. also, some smoke came out from the kill/light/start switch while doing this but the kill switch seems to be working fine.

No I only have the one 20amp fuse that's hard wired

Please give model no and type or VIN Number there are 1978 with electronic ignitions
1978 Yamaha XS650SE it has one coil but electronic box on some types
I have an 1980 with points stock but then there were 2 coils as stock
And have 4 fuses
If possible describe what wires was accidentally connected
And if the wiring is modified
Do you have a Voltmeter ..I would check the wires going to the kill Switch first so the coil is not grounded via
the smoke situation.
There are methods to check the Coil resistance
Or pictures ..making it easier to see what you have there
