My rear brake switch doesn't work. It hasn't worked since I bought the bike last year. Are these switches typically repairable or will I have to replace it? What has your experience been with this?
You can take them all apart and usually fix them as long as there's no broken parts inside. They usually just get all corroded inside and the contacts don't pass current any more. It's just a simple on-off plunger switch. Plunger extended (brake on) flows current, plunger retracted (brake off) doesn't.
Pop the rubber or plastic sleeve/cover off the back, unhook the spring from the plunger, and the guts pull out the back.
