The young generation are an odd lot, they are so self obsessed they have no interest in anything except themselves and posting pictures of themselves on social media platforms. Then there are the food obsessed ones who post pictures of everything they eat. Then there is 'the size of the young generation. Sitting down in a cafe in a mall sipping a coffee is very interesting, 90 percent of the young girls passing by aren't overweight, not even grossly overweight they are morbidly obese. And terrifyingly, they all wear skimpy clothes showing off their rolls of fat, ewww. Then there is the fashions, jeans ripped to pieces, they look like they don't have a cent to their name. I'm so glad I'm not a young single guy - slim pickings!

And I thought that was only here in the states. When I see young people out on a "date", I just shake my head at the way they dress. If I had shown up at a girls doorstep looking like these young "men" do, I would have had the door slammed in my face. My grand daughter is getting married this year and her fiance is a real throwback. Always dresses appropriately, clean cut, but then she did meet him at their very conservative church.

Let us remember that while I witness these same things, it's still not ALL young people. Plus, I am sure my parents were just as horrified by my generation.
No, it's not all young people, but the use of course language around women and children, sometimes BY women and children astounds me. I'm 63 so I grew up in the 60's and 70's. I rarely heard an F bomb until high school and even then NEVER by a female. Today, I know people who cannot complete a sentence without using it. I had to "invite" a gentleman ( I use that word very loosely) outside while dining with my wife over it. My grandkids, while not saints, are proof that yes, you are correct, that not ALL of them are like that.

Your use of "invite" reminded me of a local police report. Object of police attention was uncooperative so was "escorted" to the ground.............. A kinder, gentler method of apprehension................

Thankfully, he declined my invitation and corrected his boorish behavior.

Or is it the intolerance of the old?

We have had our day and lived in our times where we changed the narrative from our parent time to ours...............Swinging 60's drugs rock and roll, questioning our peers to the point of disrespecting our elders. In my time growing up we were taught to respect our elders to the point of servitude, when in truth a lot of them didn't warrant that respect and should have earned it them selves

I remember one of the very popular elders who ran the local gymnastics club, (we are talking about 50 or more children every Friday night attending gymnastics from a small town of 2,500 people), It was where every one wanted to go, and he was extreamly popular and respected. My mother was a friend of the local doctor who said something odd to her one day and she never understood it..................Years later it came out he was a pedophile and had been abusing kids for 20 years or more...............maybe if we weren't trained to obey our parents and respect our elders, as instructed, he might not have got away with it for as long as he did an as open as he was..........

Films like easy rider, the rolling stones and even the Beatles, (who were popular with my parents till they got into drugs and meditation), Tight jeans, hipsters, and hot pants were all hated by my parents generation, (the girls certainly got sly looks when they were wearing those outlandish clothes), Going bra-less. The rise of feminists.......Well not really as the real feminist's lost their lives advocating and protesting so they could be recognized as people who had the right to vote back in the 1800's.

It was our generation that allowed MacDonald's and all the fast food chains with unhealthy food to be established. In my fathers generation in the back yard there was always a garden for food for the family, Healthy food.

Ripped jeans was a thing in my younger days. Loved my ripped jeans but i would wear them out and holes would appear. The buying of them already ripped wasn't a fad then.

Is it really ok to fat shame. I remember my daughter when she went through a period between 14 and 18 where she carried extra weight. her mother would fat shame her and all that done was give her low self esteem and worth, when in truth she was going through that ugly duckling stage of the change of life between a child and a woman with all the hormonal changes.

I have always been a swearer but always tried to be respectful and not where it was going to cause disrespect. I taught my children that swearing never hurt anyone but to be respectful towards others, It was never ok to use swear words in anger towards others to intentionally cause harm

Maybe some tolerance and look beneath the exterior, get to know some of them and show some respect, you just might find some substance to like and not just see them as an extension of their exterier.

Whats that saying.........don't judge a book by its cover

Skull reading your post reminded me of a time when a group of motorcycle friends and I rode up to visit friends we knew in the Virago club in Canada believe it was in the late 1990's.

We we meeting for dinner and our group from New York State, most would have been between 40 and 50 years of age. Well down the street came a group of late teens to early twenties. Wild colored spiked hair, all kinds of piercings and clothes to match. The result was we spent several minutes talking to these kids showing them our rides and so on. Did have to tell them that the spiked hair would not work too well with motorcycle helmets!

I hope they had as good a time as we did, no one one in either gave bad attitude to the others. Just two very different groups of people having a pleasant visit.

Every generation suffers from generational intolerance, they goes without saying. But no matter how you look at it ripped clothes is not a good look, it just looks untidy, that is not generational intolerance, it is simply taking pride in how one looks. Today's youth don't just disrespect rules, laws and most worryingly police, they don't even respect each other. I don't know what generation you guys are, but when I was young, we all got into fights, the difference being, we didn't kick someone when they were down, we didn't have a gang of kids sticking the boot into one. I can only speak of myself here, but I never, ever hit anyone unless I was hit first. We didn't run around scribbling our name on fences, street signs, other people's property, we didn't allow pregnant women to stand on public transport while we remained seated.

Perhaps it is not right to 'fat shame', but it is also not right in saying it is alright to be fat, and that is the 'in thing' at the moment. However, it is just plain wrong: it is not good for one's health for a start and more importantly it is a strain on our health system, which we all pay for.

Fast food chains have been able to establish themselves due to the increase in disposable incomes and the increase in population. As a kid, there was no disposable income, every penny was spent wisely. My parents never had spare cash to throw away on hamburgers, hot dogs and sundaes, we were lucky to get fish and chips on a Friday simply because my folks were catholic. Today's youth are simply too lazy to grow their own vegies, too lazy to cook their own meals and too interested in self. look at any young person's social media pages, they are full of pictures of themselves posing for the camera. Conversely, look at any older person's social media pages, they are full of pictures of friends relatives, cars, motorbikes, very rarely will you see a picture of an older person pouting their lips.

There is no denying however, that every generation is responsible for the next generation's failings. No one wants to see their offspring struggle, and so we ensure life is easier for them than it was for us. So, whilst we can criticise the next generation, we should be aware 'we created them'. Shame on us!

I'm 63. I couldn't agree more. My experience's are much like yours.

The younger generation, I would qualify as younger to several on here at 39. The thing I notice though is cell phone dependence. The people I work with who are 5 years younger or more just can't seem to focus on any task presented to them because they can't be bothered to leave their phones along for more than 10 minutes at a time. Seems the guys my age or older can make that separation and be continually productive for a day. The really young ones, 25 and younger it seems, can't be told what to do period without getting offended.

I must add though, I'm sitting on my couch wearing jeans with a hole in the knee.

I use a flip phone, no problem. But I'm old and quite the Luddite.

Perhaps you could sell your bike, so you could afford some decent clothes.

Aside from watching the fat brigade waddle past, another hobby of mine is to marvel at the people who disfigure themselves by punching holes in their bodies and poking jewelry through them. Here's some very attractive people, can you imagine how unattractive they'd be without their piercings. How would you like to suck face with the last one? Well, any of them really!
I've been showing these pictures to my wife as I've been pasting them, now I've to got to scrape her off the floor and somehow stop her laughing and vomiting.

I sure hope I'm not as intolerant or judgmental as *ahem* some people when I'm their age.

I'm 43, I have about 90% of my body tattooed, I also have an advanced degree, work in a very lucrative field, and manage to keep two young girls and a wife housed and fed.

Some folks would do well to not get stuck on what things look on the outside. Say what you will about being overweight, heavily tattooed, or generationally addicted to screen time -- I still hope my insides never look as ugly as the way some peoples' words would leave me to believe they are.
