Anyone have a lead on carbs or re-build kits for a TX500 or XS500?
Thnx! Sonny
Got a deal on a 74' model but the carbs are dirty

Sonny,

Back in the day, when we just took on the Yamaha dealership in 1977, I worked on one exactly the year and color you have.

It was truly a hateful experience.

Sorry, but that's my opinion for anything it is worth!

Good Luck!

Brian-
Fortunately it's just a flipper for me, but the damn thing sure is clean.
What were the big problems?
Thnx!
Sonny

Sonny,
The owner was pretty hard on the bike and everything was worn out.

I believe the crank and rod bearings and a chain or two had to be replaced.

Balance chain and cam chain.

It was a shame to spend so much money on such an abused motorcycle as it was still only worth $500 when I was done.

Only had two I worked on and one was sold by us. It worked well and was a year or two later.

Seemed to have lots of improvements as I remember and a much more civilized owner who cared about his bikes.

Just left a bad taste in my mouth, much like the whole Honda VF500/750/1100 series a Honda f...k up for sure!

Pardon the language, somethings bring back awful memories!!! ha ha ha

Good Luck.
