I've seen discussions about the side emblems from Mikes XS. I couldn't find a thread with a compare of the two. So, here's a side by side photo of a NOS right side emblem (2M0-21782-00-00) and one from Mikes XS. Just to be clear, the Mikes XS comes as a 2-set (pair) and they are left or right. The set also comes with the pin clamps (plate washers and spring nuts). I don't know if the OEM really matters left or right either but the item numbers are different. I'm going to use the Mikes XS set on my '80 XS Special.
The OEM emblem is on top. Mikes XS is on bottom.
OEM on the right. Mikes XS on the left.
As you can see, the OEM is plated and then painted (semi-gloss) black while Mikes XS is gloss black plastic with plated raised letters.
They both look great to me.
