This is on the XS2 engine. It wasn't until after I put the cases back together that I read about an "Oil Sealing Gasket" that goes between the crankcases. I was pretty good about documenting and taking pictures of the engine as it came apart, and unless this seal rolled away somewhere, I have no idea if it even existed. It appears the case is blocked, at least on one side, and of course there was a stud blocking the view of the upper case. It's part #21 in the picture (which looks like an o-ring, but its a solid piece). Part number 256-15395-00. Has anyone else ran into this and forgotten to put this in, or had an engine without the seal? If it was in there, I can't imagine how it escaped. Since it appears that the one case is blocked, am I assuming that if the other case is open, that there is oil under pressure (more than crankcase) that will leak out of the cases?
Thank you. 20161229_113632 (2).jpg 20161229_113659 (2).jpg yamaha-xs2-1972-usa-crankcase_bigyau1211a-10_1f4d.gif

You can do a forum search on:

"256-15395-00" and "blanking plug".

Yes, that hole gets oil pressure, maybe 20-30 psi when cold, almost nothing when hot. Your call on leaving it out, recommended putting it in...
