We started out with a 1978 XS650 as a starting point...which is basically relatively mundane Standard frame and put it on serious diet. The end result was 52 pounds lighter than stock and ready to be transformed..
We wanted to blend the best from the old with the best of new to create a kind Street Tracker/Scrambler sort of bike and we feel like we've accomplished that.
The motor got a full re-build with performance valves and stronger springs. Sings like a scorched banshee!
To get it breathing right we used a pair of Mikuni VM34 round slide carbs plumbed through some CNC machined intake manifolds and a pair of aluminum petcocks topped off with a pair of free flow air filters.
The exhaust was not over looked and we used some low slung head pipes coupled to a pair of reverse cone mufflers.
The bikes power comes from a new XS Charge PMA set-up running in conjunction with an Anti-Gravity Li-Ion battery along with a Pamco electronic ignition system.
The instrumentation uses a mechanical speedo & an electronic tach unit.
This is kind of modeled after a race bike but lights were a concern so we utilized modern L.E.D. lighting for all the lights. Headlight, tail light and the little blinkers.
All of the electrics on the bike have been carefully hidden from view using internal routing for all of the wiring on the bike. The main fuse panel has easy access under the seat.
Even though this bike made to GO...it does on occasion have to stop...so we hooked up the back wheel with new brake shoes and stroger springs for better grab.
Up front we used a new Nissan 14mm master cylinder feeding fluid through a stainless brake line feeding the stock XS caliper. The disc was swiped off of a Virago.
The wheels consist of a a set of Takasago shouldered rims with an 450 X 18 in the rear and a 120 X 19 up front. These are topped off with a set of Shinkp 705 tires front & rear.
It rains a bit here in Washington so a front fender was installed as well to keeps the wet out of your face.
The rear suspension consists of a stock Yamaha swing arm with new bronze bushings and a pair of KYB gas filled shocks.
The drive chain is a new RK high tensile chain.
The front end sports a re-built set of KYB forks with progressive springs.
The bars are classic Flanders style dirt track style bars topped off with a set of classic "coke bottle" rubber grips.
A Yamaha MX360 tank was used coupled with an XR style seat from our friends at Hot Wing Glass handle the "body work" this has all been painted using Matrix System custom colors.
The bike has a clear title
