Carb Parts - where to find

Folks, I was wondering if someone could help me locate a couple of parts for my BS34s. I am in need of the butterfly looking part that connects the two carbs up near the top. I am also looking for the connector plate that also connects the carbs and runs across them near the top. Both...

    Bearded Lady 2011 in Minneapolis...

Just checking to see if we're gong to have a contingent at the show this year? I'll be wearing the nice looking XS650.com work shirt (thanks again, Travis!). Who else is going? Does anyone have their bike entered into the mix? I'm pretty sure the guys from Speed Club have a booth...

How much rust is too much?

So I'm putting my chop back together with a sporty tank (that looked clean inside). I opened up the petcock and tied to kick her over. Since it won't start, I took the carbs back off for a cleaning and realized the gas left in the bowls was rust colored. There were no rust flakes in the...

Hands on assistance in Saint Michael, MN

I am trying to finish up my build that I bought last year. I have the following items that I need some assistance with and I would rather pay someone on this forum to walk me through it (in my garage) than take it to a local shop. I want the knowledge so in case something breaks, I can fix it...

Can header pipes be heated and bent a little?

If so, does anyone have a suggestion on the best way to go about this? I need to decrease the bend coming right from the exhaust port so the pipe travels more down than backwards. Sorry I don't have a pic to explain. I'm planning on buying some from Gordon Scott, but I need to get her...

    kill switch wire gauge question

If I understand the manner in which an aftermarket kill switch should work, the power comes through the fuse block, up the wire into the kill switch then down into the coil. When you turn on the kill switch, you interupt the circuit and therefor the coil loses power and cuts out the motor. Is...

What's your brake-stay arm look like?

To all those that have decided to chop, what are you using for brake-stay arms to the frame? Pics would be worth a million here. I'm thinking some chain welded to form a solid rod. What else ya got???

    wiring question - again...

Folks, Hopefully this is the last electrical question. (yeah right)! I bought one of those universal starter/kill switch buttons, like this: http://thumbs3.ebaystatic.com/m/mjZm-0APHn67FvdaXliWRug/140.jpg It has two wires labeled as starter push (gonna be my horn): blue/white & black...

    kill switch grounding

Does a universal style kill switch / start button ground itself to the bars via that little metal (magnetic) nub inside the case that goes around the bars? It seems like it sticks out about 1/8 inch too far - I'm guessing it's for just that grounding purpose. Thanks!

    throttle cable (not housing)

While I was cutting the casing on the extended cable I got from MikesXS, I accidentally knicked the cable itself. This is causing problems with the travel in and out of the cable housing. I need a new one, but can't seem to find a supplier that sells just the inside cable without the housing...

    kill switch / start button

would a tradition kill switch / start button work to: * use the kill switch as intended? * use the start button to operate the horn? I'm using a traditional car style starter ignition. Thank!

    blowing 20A fuses

I finally got the wiring completed (although it's not correct) as the Chrysler regulator isn't grounded yet, but I think everything else is done. Since I'm running a single, dual output coil with the stock points, here is how I wired it: I soldered the two point wires together and connected...

dual output coil with points - help please...

Stock points setup MikesXS dual output coil no kill switch looking to wire this up today and the way I understand it is the black wire from the coil gets connected to the condenser wire (the other condenser wire I cap off as it won't be used) and the hot points wire. Question: is the orange...

    Making battery cables

Alright ya'll I've got some battery cables to make but I don't have a crimper. Is there another method I can use. I was thinking to heat the clips up put the wires in and solder the ends into the clips. Do I need to crimp them or will the solder create the seal I need? Thanks!

    carrying alcohol

Folks, Does anyone know if I can legally carry a sealed mini bottle of alcohol on my chop (once it's running :-). I want to pay homage to my favorite whiskey distiller (Makers Mark), but I'm wondering about the legality and how I would have to secure it to the bike. Else, I could empty...

hard tail too wide ... or ... axle too short

Hi everyone. I have a 72 frame the PO chopped and put on a TC Bros hardtail. The bike was still in pieces when I bought so I never saw it completed. Anyway... I'm getting around to completing the bike but the rear axle doesn't quite seem long enough as there are no threads showing for me...

    where is the start solenoid?

I have a hardtail chop that I bought as a project, but I didn't find the solenoid in any of the boxes. Where is it normally installed on the bike? Thanks!

    kill switch question

If I'm running points and don't care about someone flipping my headlight on (or me forgetting to turn it off :-), and draining the battery, is there a reason I need to run a kill swicth? Thanks!
