    Frontend issues/questions: 1973 tx650

I have a 1973 TX650 that is just about finished. I have been working on this bike for almost two years off and on. it is a complete bike and i have ridden it about 25-40 miles around the neighborhood. I did install brand new fork tubes and seals because it had fork tubes on it that were ten...

    Tc bros PMA help needed

I'm helping a buddy that bought an xs650 "project" and I'm stumped. It has points, Tc bros PMA, reg/rec unit and a capacitor. Main concern right now is to make sure the motor runs before a complete tear down. I wired the ignition system, battery, coils, condensers, new points gapped. The PMA is...

Finally hit the pavement and nothing fell off!

D fin as Lily got the go and stop nailed down. What a blast to be back in the wind! Lol She runs pretty good but the carbs need some tuning. Isles okay, stumbles right off the throttle like she's starving and then runs like a raped ape. Cruising is fine also. Gotta read thru the carb guide...

    73' brake question

So I've been doing some research and am finding it a little expensive to make sure I can stop. I have a full front brake setup, master cylinder, caliper, old crusty lines. They appear to be in good shape, except for the hoses. It looks like the caliper rebuild kit is $23.50, piston are $22.00...

    Dna springer, real total cost?

So I have been thinking about a Springer for my bike and have read a lot of posts about adapting the bearings and needing the wheel and brakes. Right now I have a 1973 tx650 which I guess has a shorter than later models neck. I want front brakes and would like to run a small speedo. I am...

    Petcock sizes

I was looking for petcocks for different tanks and they have sizes like 1/4, 3/8, 22mm and others. I have an old sporty tank and a paughco mustang tank that both use what I thought was a 3/8 npt. Well I ordered a 3/8 npt elbow and a 3/8 npt petcock and that is not what I have in my tanks. The...

    Resurrection-my build thread

I decided to start a build thread as I'm finally starting from the bare frame up. I've had this bike for a little while now and have already spent many hours working on her. The story I got was the original owner bought it new in 73' and rode it for a few years. It was hardtailed and modified in...

    Frame up build question

Okay so I will have my frame back from the welder tomorrow and I will start getting my bike together. The frame was sand blasted and repaired which it really needed and all tabs and mounts should be done now. I have no idea on a color scheme yet and this will be my first attempt at painting...

I have some things laying around that someone else may need. They came off my 73' tx650. Make me a fair offer and I can check shipping rates. I can also get more pics and or measurements. Pretty nice front fender. $25 plus shipping. Will clean up real nice. Only rust is right on the bolts but...

Wanted - Lowest profile 3/8 petcock

I'm in need of a right angle 3/8 petcock. I need the smallest or lowest profile, sits as near to the tank as possible. I have an old paughco mustang style tank that has hardly any clearance between the tank and the top of the engine. Oh left side too. Any recommendations?

What to do while the engine is out?

So I went to a local welder today and showed him my concerns about the hardtail on my bike. He said it is no problem and he can fix it up right for $100 to $150 and can get it in this thursday. I went right home and tore the whole bike down to the frame in three hours. Lol I am planning on...

    Correct frame width early xs

What is the correct width between axle plates of a hardtail on an early model xs? I havr a 73 tx650 that is hardtailed and it is REALLY tight. I really had to pry to get the wheel back in after a new tire. I'm going to try and get it to a welding shop for some repair and inspection but I don't...

Wanted - Early BS38 throttle shaft needed...

Anybody have a good throttle shaft for an early BS38? Mine was sticking so I checked it and it was bent beyond my repair. I don't know if it matters but it is the left side with the choke. Thanks.

A few of my old bikes/projects

Here are of few of my old bikes/projects. Xs650 hardtail that I sold before finishing. Mostly stock xs650 that a buddy painted. I don't know where the side covers are. Norton commando rat. Cb750 that a buddy built for me. It was awesome. Loved that bike! Just thought I would share...

    These carbs are killing me!

I've read the manual. I've read the carb guide. I replaced the throttle shaft seals today and noticed the throttle shaft is not operating smooth on the left carb. They are early bs38's that are not connected. I noticed it was hanging open sometimes but I figured when I changed the seals I could...

Anybody from WA or ID here?

Just wondering who may be from this neck of the woods? I'm in Spokane WA. I see xs's here and there and I'm guessing that at least a few of them are members rides.

Crack in the frame or weld.

So I chipped some bondo off the frame, it had a shit ton of it and even the gas tank was welded and bondo'd to the frame. Ground off a couple of brackets too. After that I was using a 120 grit flap disc to clean up the areas and I found this under the paint. This is right where the hardtail...
