For Sale - 1981 XS with early re-pahsed engine

It' been six months since I last rode my Yamaha. Other than looking at it as a piece of art in my eyes, I need to sell it as I don't have the garage space to keep it around any longer. Some of the specs; engine is early 256 with compression release, 277 re-phased, new valve guides, new...

For Sale - Two piece leathers

I have a pair of two piece Dainse leathers that I purchased years ago in Italy. I've since grown out of them. They are a Europe size 58, witch translates to approximately a 44 here in America. They are in excellent shape (I only wore them about six times). I paid $650.00 for them then in 1996...

    Checking the PMA field windings

I recently blew a Pamco ignition on my bike. I suspected the reason was the cheap reg/rec that comes with the PMA kit. Pete replaced my ignition under warranty no questions asked. Great guy and great product. I'll buy no other. My question is how would you check the field coils on the PMA...

    Average wait time.

I posted an e-mail with pictures over on XS650chopper.com the last week of July and it still hasn't been posted. Any one know the average time to post from submission? Administrator says a week. Well that came and went. Just wondering, my last bike appeared in a week, but that was...

    Alternate sprockets

I'm in need of gearing down my 23" rear tire. I used the stock gearing in a 17/32 combo and it's pretty tall. Nice on the highway, but too tall for around town where it is normally ridden. Can't go bigger on the rear sprocket because of the fender clearance. So I want to drop the front...

    Plug reading

What you folks think? To lean, or just right? Maybe the next main jet, or just raise the needle one notch? I'll add that this is on my re-phased stock motor with home built Joe-Wise guy type single carb manifold, 38mm Mikuni VM carb, #180 main jet, #20 pilot jet, 159-P6 needle jet, and P8 needle.

    Advance rod side play

I'm experiencing about a 1/16" to 1/32" side play on the timing advance rod on my repahased motor. Is this normal movement? I'm wondering if I should try and shim out the play. What are the opinions?

    Chain links

Anybody have an idea how many chain links it takes for a 6" stretch hard tail with 17/34 sprockets. I need to buy my chain soon and there is usually a 20 dollar difference in chain lengths of 130 to 150 links. Any first hand knowledge is appreciated.

    Engine seals

I have a stupid question about the seal kit from MikesXS. What is the smallest seal for? It's 13mm outside diameter and 7mm inside diameter. I've built two XS engines and haven't figured it out yet.

For Sale - Yamaha TT500 street tracker project, $1500.00

I'm on the fence about selling this future project, but I need to raise some cash to finish my current build. I'm sure another project will turn up, they always do. So we'll see how this goes. As the title states, I have a TT500 that a previous owner converted to flat track. As I'm told by...

    Tube bender

Haven't been posting on here much lately. Mostly because of working furiously on my VW bus project. But now that is finished and being driven. Couple of months back I bought a tube bender with hydraulic accuator and a hand pump from my neighbor. There are three bender dies, 3/4", 1", and...

    For Sale - Yamaha XT500

I have this XT500 for sale. What you see is basically what you get. I do have two carburators(one pumper, one nonpumper), but no carb manafold. Speedo shows a little over 9000 miles on engine. I gave $500 for this with out tank, seat, and front fender. They are obviously from a TT500. Still...

Needle clip location different in each carb

Here are my thoughts. First a little back ground on my set up. I'm running the BS34 carbs(I think), they came off a 1970/71 engine. Pod filters and freeflowing exhaust. When I first stated running this engine setup, I was lean both idle and full throttle. So in my tinkering I opened both my idle...

    Oil cooler install

Deceided to do an XSJohn oil cooler mod to my chopper. Located two XS750 oil coolers complete with lines at the local junk yard, then went to town. First I flattened out the stock mounting plates that were for the XS750, and filed out the holes so I could get an upright angle more in line with...
