    Low voltage problem '78 XS650

Hey all- I'm at my wits end with a charging issue with my '78 XS650. Here's the situation: I have an HHB PMA installed for a few years now, with a small SLA battery and no electric start. Charging system is super simple: just the PMA, SLA, and reg/rec. The issue is that batteries are...

    Mechanical advance problems

Hey Guys, I've got an 81 that I'm installing a Pamco unit in to replace the TCI. The problem is that when it's all installed, and the nuts on both sides of the advance rod are tightened, the advance rod no longer spins in the cam, and the weights no longer move. What's up? Thanks, Jay

PMA Swap - Rough Idle & Other issues

Hey guys, This is my first post, but I've been using the threads to trouble shoot for a few months now. I know there are 1000+ threads on this issue, but I can't seem to find exactly the right answer. I've been doing some electrical work, and here's where I stand. 1. Upgraded to a PMA...

    277 Pamco e advance?

Hi All, Just doing some research on an ignition system for this winter project which will run a 277 rephased engine. My normal Boyer ignition does not supply a pick up for the 277 rephase, so I am venturing into the Pamco arena :) My question is - Does anyone know if the Pamco e advance...

Rare earth magnet on points rotor

Yes Virginia, it can be done! Having two good points rotors and one bad TCI rotor on hand I decided to try adding a rare earth magnet to one of the good points rotors and convert it to fire the TCI. You need a TCI rotor to make a paper template for proper magnet placement. Place a sheet...

    Points ignition and single coil?

I see the threads with the PAMCO's and OEM electronic ignition run a single coil. I can assume that both cylinders fire together. The points system completes the circuit alternating left & right cylinder ignition. Has anybody used a Harley single coil and jumpered the points together? I have...

    $5 Fusebox Upgrade

If you aren't all fussed with replacing your glass fuses, which have worked for at least 30 years now, you can pick up one of these from Canadian Tire for about 5 bucks. I needed to replace my fusebox, since the original brass clips were getting weak enough to shear off just by replacing...

    Modern Battery, Modern Regulator/Rectifier?

Good Afternoon All, Been reading through the threads about sealed batteries - pros and cons, mishaps and triumphs, opinions and experiences with brands and have come to conclude that I want to go with either a Shorai LFX or Ballistic 8 cell for my build. It seems that through the collections...

First off, I am wiring a 80 hardtail xs650, I have a simple main wiring harness from DADDYGCYCLES, and a TC BROs 6 pin chopper wiring harness. I have wired up all the lights, horn, and key switch and everything works great so far. Now my problem is wiring up the coil. The only wires I have...

New PAMCO for '80 to '83 models

It's not like we don't hear enough from PAMCO, but there is a new E-Advancer kit available from PAMCO for the '80 to '83 models that do not have an advance rod. This new kit includes an advance rod made from a simple 12mm aluminum rod and a couple of one piece brass bushings and a rotor and...

    Princess Auto fuse block

I am going through my wiring on my 78 Special and have found a bad spot as shown. This question though is about changing out the glass fuses. I saw this modern fuse block. When I looked at it in the store it seemed ideal, but on better examination and thought at home, I realize that it has a...

A few questions about wiring my bike, searched and didn't find definite answers.

Trying to familiarize myself before I dive in and start wiring it up. I'm trying to get the charging circuit done. I pulled off the old wiring harness because it was shot, but I still have it and cut off the ends that I think I can use. The first pic on the left are the wires coming out...

Why won't my LED signal indicator work?

I bought LED indicators for my bike because I could not get my hands on a high beam indicator for my headlight bucket and the Tach I'm running only has a slot for the signal indicator. So I found these LED's that looked like they would work and all I would have to do is install all three in the...

    E-Advancer survey

It's been almost three years since the PAMCO E-Advancer was introduced, so maybe it's time to see what those who have one think about it. Please, only participate in this survey if you have a PAMCO E-Advancer installed on your XS650. Comments are welcome whether you have one or not.
