Fall Riding

WINTER RIDING
Here in Phoenix anyways, took a ride to the Arizona Cardinals Stadium. The stadium entertainment district is huge. One square mile with a football stadium, hockey rink, 26 restaurants, 20 movie theatre screens, and even a casino.

More WINTER RIDING,
This morning as I was pulling on my gear it was 42 degrees with the sun coming up, it was going to be a clear day, so I headed out to my favorite little coffee shop to fuel up.
Then I headed West, into farmland and the desert mountain foothills. I rode out to an area West of Phoenix to the loose knit community of Rainbow Valley. A place where folks who don’t like their neighbors to be too close or community association rules.

It’s mostly just open natural desert down here.
From there I turned North and headed towards farmland. Everywhere I went there were cotton fields in various stages of being harvested. The saying goes , Arizona was founded on the three C’s , Cattle, Cotton, and Copper. I passed LOTS of cattle lots, but they’re not much to look at. :poo:

Machines like this were everywhere, ( not my photo)

The cotton is then pressed in huge hydraulic presses into truck sized bales and left on the side of the fields for pickup later.

This is Perryville Rd. The road that runs right through the middle of the Perryville prison complex. “ When I was a baby, my mama told me son, always be a good boy, don’t ever play with guns.”

There is farmland as far as you can see around the prison. All the winter crops are in full swing right now, cabbage, cauliflower , broccoli, these are fields of red and green lettuce. Really very pretty in the bright sunlight.

Then it was time to find a gas station and head for the barn. A very nice little 60 mile ride!
Winters here ALMOST make up for being broiled in the summer!

I thought University of Phoenix was just a state of mind. Good ride. I would have enjoyed all of that.

I always get so envious when I see other members photos of these beautiful tree lined, winding roads that are everywhere back east. Those are the kinds of roads that the old bikes are just made for, just tootling along at 40 to 55 mph.
Where I live, the Phoenix metro area is a massive flat valley surrounded by mountains.

Throughout the valley, all the roads are laid out like a grid. Long, long, dead straight lines. It makes it easy to find your way around, but not very exciting motorcycling. The really nice riding is pretty far North of Phoenix, where you get into the mountain elevations. The downside is all of us flatlanders love going up to the mountains for the beautiful scenery and it can wind up looking like this.

I'm curious what the road is made of in this pic. Looks really rough, like paved by the Tire Sellers Association.

They mix asphalt, sand and crushed rock. This road is out in the middle of nowhere and hasn’t been resurfaced in a long time. Yeah it would chew you up pretty good if you went down on that.

"Road Rash", they call it.
Got a real bad case of it back in the early 80's at the original Bryar Motorsport Park (Loudon, NH) when I flipped my kart at about 90mph. The abrasion was so deep that it still burns today when I ride the motorcycles.

Ouch Dude! I too have had road rash. Nothing like sitting in the ER with Nurse Rachet scrubbing your raw skin with a brush to get all the debri out!

Where is the red road close to? It might be unique to AZ. Kind of reddish in general out there from pictures and flying over.

I saved my T-shirt from that incident:

Where did you get your road rash, Bob?
