XS650 Enthusiast
Hello, to the great members in the forum. I am going to share my first build with the group and welcome any feed back good or bad. I come from a racing back ground both two wheel and four wheel, on road and off road and decided to try my hand at building a street tracker.
I purchased a used up 1979 xs 650 out of Huntington Beach Ca.....bike had a bit of rust and usage. I found the forum and read up on a lot of threads to determine the direction I would go. With that said, I choose to go with Omar's on the majority of my parts, along with Mikes xs.
I purchased the following from Omar's : Fiberglass tank, seat/side plate, 19"spoke wheels & tires, rear wheel kit, bars & grips, 34mm carbs, exhaust, front and rear Brimbo brakes, rear shocks, front fork stiffeners and fork guards.
I purchased the following from Mikes xs: PMA / PAMCO ignition, cables, instruments, gasket kit & seals.
I found some HD lights on Amazon and fabricated the number plate / lights/ speedo & tac. I also fabricated the frame and side cover mesh theme based on another members post. Hope you don't mind.
I incorporated the led turn signals and wiring based on other posts in the forum....thank you.
I had an issue with the front forks diving under braking and after review in the forum chose to go with the old school fork valves, which worked great. I also shaved my forks in house off the the forum info.
Long story short, the bike is an absolute blast to ride and gets nothing but thumbs ups all over the place. The true racers know the bike as a homage to Kenny Roberts even though I have number 1 instead of 3.
