recommendations for tires

Im bumpin this thread. lookin at tires, anyone running a 130/90/18? trying to get something wideish on a stock xs rear spoked wheel? suggestions?

Stone, are you running the stock swingarm? A 130/90-18 Won't fit in the swingarm. some 120's won't fit.

A 130/90/18 will rub the swingarm and the chain, aside from that it is an unusual size and probably only available as a clunky dual sport. I use Contis 120/90/18 for looks although a 110 would probably handle better.

Stone, On a hardtail you won't hit the frame, but you will hit the chain. A 130/90-18 might work ok.
Bonez, If your riding your bike enough you shouldn't have to worry about a tire rotting away. If your tire lasts more than two or three seasons you need to ride more.
The tire manufacturers don't reccomend running a tire over 6 years old. I agree with them.
On the 81 I have tires that look good. Hardly have the mold nubs worn off. The date code on them are 405 and 275. The 405 means 40th week of 1995, the 275 is 27th week of 1995. 16 years old.
Well past the 6 year limit. It's a bit squirrley to ride. I have new tires to put on it.
The 81 Honda has tires a bit newer but they feel funny to. They are 1306 and 1106. Those numbers being 4 digits mean they were made after 2000, the 13th and 11th week of 2006. Only 5 years old, but need replacing.
If you keep new tires on, then you won't have a problem.
