starter gasket removal

how do i remove this inner ring leftover from the gasket. i checkd my haynes but couldn't find anything. also i don't want to do something where i can damage the sides of the hole. any tips that can help?

Just take a flathead and a hammer and punch it out. I had the same problem and was stuck for about a half day until my brother popped it out in about 3 seconds.
