I have tried all kind of oil and have settled for Silkolene Silkolube Classic 20w-50 Api Sf/CC This oil is for classic motorcycles, cars, vintage engines, general use and competition engines.I have the external coversion 147 hiflow filter fitted so its quick and easy no messing about

One of the big selling points for synthetic oil is longer change intervals, but I don't think hardly any of us do that with these XS's. I think most of us go about 1000 miles between changes. I consider synthetic a waste of money for that. Any normal Dino 20-50 should do. Personally, I use the Walmart brand. I've been using it for years with no issues. I believe frequent changes are the key here, not the oil brand.

There are numerous "oil threads" here at the forum.

You could spend a whole day reading them :)

I have 5 bikes on the road and for years I've used Rotella T4 15/40 in all of them with confidence. I get it cheap at Walmart.
    About $13 a gallon

It has a JASO MA rating

Ok, I knew I had read about it, and I asumed this is what you were talking about, but honestly didnt want to go digging through the forums again. Isn't this the guy out of the UK that does them out of his machine shop? Didn't he stop or is he still doing them?

He stopped because he was not very good building engines.

I thinks the one i have has a square billet Ali with an oil channel machined into it and then the 147 hiflow filter thread to accept the filter located where the drian bolt goes.
It uses the old filter mountings to secure the Ali billet block ...quite simple really good idea:D

No actual work done but a round of "Garage Tetrus" got the '77 back out where it can be worked on. In the shit show that is my garage that's considered progress! "Now, where did I leave off....?"

Do you know about adding a few drops of Marvel Mystery Oil to pneumatic tools, daily?

Man that brings me back to my chop. Your first picture especially. I spent a weekend stripping, priming, sanding, and finally painting my bike gloss black. I had my frame hanging precariously from one of my soloflex machines, and the trees amd other small parts hanging from the basememt rafters. Had no way of knowing that the next day me and the ex would get in our last knock down-drag out, and I wouldnt be able to return to the house for 4 months. Didnt know if I’d ever see that chop again. I did though, and finished painting the tank and assembling it in my dad’s girlfriends garage in the fall and spring of 16/17. The paint on Those parts had plenty of time to cure.

A little time with the drill press and presto, a copy of 5Twin's mod for centre stand ease of use.
