I went for a mountain twisty ride to Glenville, CA. My bike handled great, ran great, and sounded great. I thought about getting one those new Yamaha 700 twins and I may still but I will not part with my XS.

    Hi Tony
I sat on one a couple months ago and had the same thought.
I'd say the 700 is the new version of the 650, everything just feels right. Haven't seen any bargains on craigslist yet though

  5. Scratched my head and asked a forum about my carb issue...... Plus loved her loads

Make sure it's mount is stout. I've picked up a few pounds over the years...

The gas tank on the 1975 garage find of mine was full of rust from sitting since 1984 with gas in it. I saw a video on YouTube:yikes: where a guy used Apple Cider Vinegar to clean out rust, several video's actually. I was impressed. Check out the photo's.

Today I took apart my forks, sort of. The bolts at the bottom of the fork are just spinning. I am off to find someone with an impact so I can hopefully finish. I miss my house, Apartment life is sort of lacking in the power tools. I will update and add pics if I can finish today.

Update with pics. I found a local Honda dealer that actually took the bolt out of the forks for free as well as cut my chain down for me.

  10. I've been away this past 11 months, so dragged the cover off, pulled it out of storage, new tyres, battery and re-rego. Serviced and going great again.
I'm really impressed with these Shinko tyres. I fitted 230 Tourmasters to the XS but I'm also running a set of 712's on an old V45 Sabre. They're cheap, sticky, both in wet and dry and the only tyre I can get overnight here. Guess I'll see what kind of mileage they give me.

Finished rebuilding forks on the '77. Wishing for something more than the teens for high temps.

  13. Took them both out for a twenty mile dust off. 59 degrees F......had to do it.
Both ran great and unique to each other. Love the slammed rear and the heavy forks on the '83 Special along with the lowered seat on it from a '79.....it just feels right.
The '77 sits high in its stock configuration but the flickability beats out the '83.
    Love 'em both.
A hard tailed third is in the dream stages.......

I finally got around to replacing the output shaft seal. Previously my chain would be dripping wet and there'd be oil all over the rear wheel and hub. Chamfered the hole and hit it with a little smear of threebond, and the chain and sprocket stayed dry after riding around all afternoon.
