I feel the same way. I have a 32T on the 16" rear wheel of my Special and it's wonderful. I had the sprocket already because I tried it on my Standard with it's 18" rear wheel. Not good, robbed too much of the lower gear "lunge" and take off power. On that 18" rear wheel, I now run an 33T and think it is ideal. This is what Yamaha put on the European bikes and I think it matches the engine's power output very well. Here's a gearing chart and, as you can see, the 18"-33t closely matches the 16"-32T, the later being just a hair higher. I only run the stock 17T up front. I don't see the point of using an 18T up there, what with the possible clearance issues, and I think it gears the bike too high. You have to remember, we're only dealing with about a 50HP machine here ......
