    xs2 carbs and starting issues

Have a 72 I have been building for what seems like 20 years. I'm ready to start it up finally but having a hell of a time trying to get it to run. Currently I have a pamco and Hughes PMA. Has spark and I'm fairly certain it is in time. I can spray ether in the inlet and get it to fire. I...

Air Barb vs. No Barb: '78 Carb Holder

Now that I've got my first chop wired and fired I'm get as much info on dialing in the carbs. It's a '78 xs650 with bs38's. Pod filters with straight pipes. Have new mains and pilots of larger sizes coming but had a question about the air barbs that would have been used or stock vacuum...

    JBM Carb Holders

After going thru Mike's XS carb holders, ( cheap crap), I ordered from JBM Ind. They are a little more expensive but worth every penny. Mike's really puts it to you on shipping. JBM is extremely responsive and it ships the next business day, actual shipping, and they email you back right...

Do carb holder sizes vary between 76-77 and 77-78?

I ordered a set of carb boots from Ebay and they ended up not fitting my carbs. I learned today that my carbs are from '76-'77, not '78-'79 like I thought. The ones I ordered said they would fit years '78-'83(:umm:). Here's the jump to the ad...

Separation of Carb Holders (Carb Joint) From Brackets (Carb Joint Cover)

Is there a safe (or preferred) methold to separate damaged/worn carb joints from what Yamaha refers to as the "carb joint covers" (i.e., brackets)? I assume they can be taken apart since Yamaha lists the parts separately. Thanks.

Don's early carb holders very nice...

Don's pieces for early bikes are quality. I have mine on as of today. Now, I'll have no rubber degradation worries. Unhappily, though, I'm still chasing this high idle when the bike's hot. I have been afraid to touch the valves because the bike runs well at speed and pulls hard through the...
