447 Cam Identification

Just wondering if there is a way to identify cams by the factory markings and if there is any difference. The one that was in my 1981 engine has the number 2 cast into it. I picked one up off Ebay a while back and it has the numbers 447 and 3 cast into it. Is there any difference between these? The main reason I ask is that I've been having trouble getting the one with the number 2 setup and was wondering if it was something odd?

how many teeth are on it ( the one with a 2 ) the 256 cam has 34 teerh and the 447 has
36 teeth other than that it should work. they say the 256 cam runs better But that I don't know.
