Adapt TCI to cam trigger to use with PMA

I've had a few different xs650's in the past, all of which were points bikes that I converted to PMA/pamco. Now I have a 1980 with TCI and the factory charging system which may or may not have an issue....

So, I got to thinking and researching an idea: Has anyone successfully converted their bike to PMA charging and adapted a pickup to work as a cam-triggered unit to keep the factory TCI?
