Guys I have the twin exit crankcase breather cover on my 79. Is it possible to swap this for the single exit? This would help with clearance of the pipes which I'm struggling with. Alternatively is is possible to reduce the pipe diameter on the twin outlet?
Yes a single port from a later model is a direct swap and a popular mod as reflected by the cost. I'll be glad when 2M starts turning out single nipples to replace the dual. Another advantage is the depth of the cover the single outlets are shallower. A gain if space is a concern.
This link will show you the difference on the first page. Go ahead and scroll through the 3 pages FYI.
Another option I didn't mention is the outlet on the XS1 motor is a single outlet but I'm not sure if the bolt hole pattern is a swap and the cost would be prohibitive.
I checked with a local about making me a single outlet spigot but being a one off for him it was too expensive. If he could sell 1,000 the price would come down but I dropped the idea and just watched the classified for members breaking down bikes and scored a couple.
Note that there is a baffle plate that fits inside it. Make sure the unit you buy comes with that because it's different than the one used in your current twin outlet housing.
Hi Paul,
as long as you are not determined to keep your bike looking stock you could replace the breather plate with a rectangle of 1/2" thick aluminum plate
drilled with the original's bolt pattern and tapped with a pipe thread in the middle. Run a drain hose with a non-return valve in it from the tapped hole.
Thats a good idea but what does a baffle plate do? These sit inside right?
I have found this on eBay which looks promising but the seller is unable to provide dimensions. I can however go to his shop to look at it, may see if I can get over there tomorrow.....
I think I filed down most of the thread to match the OD of the bifurcated outlet and then just pushed it in with blue loctite used. I think I spun it at slow speed in my drill press and used a file against it. It has stayed in good too. The 3/4" X 1/2" was the closest size that would work after filing it down.
Yeah the last two just show the guts of the breather ... bonus pics!
