I posted in the classified section that I’m looking for a chain guard for my ‘76. Can anyone tell me if the chain guard is the same for all years? I’ve seen some nice ones for sale from Specials but don’t know if they’d fit.

The Special one is a more angular shape, different pressings, but they fit on the same mounting holes AFAIK.
Swingarms interchange, so it stands to reason the chain guard will as well. Specials were chrome and Special II had black.

I can’t speak for all years, but I had a black one on my ‘77 that was thick and very solid feeling and a chrome one on my XS2 that was much thinner stamped steel. They mounted differently too.
74 and up are different from 73 and down. Early ones are hard to find and yes they did feel lighter than the later ones, maybe because of their contours.
Special chain guards are notched for the wider 16" tire but will work fine on a Standard frame '74 and up.
