What do you do with the gas in the float bowl when swapping VM34 main jets at the road side? Or do you turn off the petcocks and pull over when the bowls are dry?
Not a bad idea. At highway cruise fuel burn rate, there's about 1 minute (1 mile) of fuel in the bowls. My experience shows the beginnings of fuel depletion (throttle opening stumble) about 20-30 seconds after the petcocks are turned off...
Pour it back in the tank. I actually try to make my catch pan out of a white oil bottle, makes it easier to see debris. the little "dip, trap" by the cap holds back any crap if you pour slow. Hint; don't over tighten the cap or it's hard to open while hanging on to a flimsy container of fuel! I probably should heat, work a rear corner into a pour spout....
Two "aught to's"; drill the cap insert about 4" of fuel line, make a loop of wire- 'round the bottle neck to hold the line "up" during the carb drain. or add a 1/4 turn fuel valve to the line.....
Slip a bit of fuel line over a slotted bit to hold the jet for removal install.
I did some road side tuning over the weekend. Copied gggGary's container trick but used a well cleaned fish can instead of an oil bottle to catch the gas while emptying the carbs. Just he right size and worked well.
