I have a couple of cans of aerosol K&N oil. Having used them in my work vans over the years. Is that as good or better than motor oil? I don't have the K&N's anymore, but I still have the oil!
According to the Australian UNI site, you should use a 50-50 mix of motor oil and gas on these black pods. The regular foam filter oil they make is apparently too thick and tacky, and will clog them.
