I've noticed that throughout the years of the 650. Their are 2 main stock pipes. One looks more "curvy", and one looks more "squared" or "cornered". I'm referring to the part of the header where it bends and comes downward kind of following the frame.
Which year did they switch over? and which are which? Like is it before 75' that they used the more sharp pipes and after is when they switched?

Hopefully this makes some sense. I wish i had picks to show a example.

My '77 non S is the straighter style
my '80 S is the curvie style

Somebody's gotta have a closer answer though.

I think it was in 78 they went to the one piece deal with the curved pipe. I hate these because it makes it hard to put aftermarket mufflers on. (you have to cut off the muff.)

The curved headpipes were used on the Specials. The squared headpies were used on the standards. The Specials came out in 78.

The Standards all had separate headpipes. The Specials all had the mufflers welded to the headpipes.

No not the same. pipes will work but not mufflers. 76 exhaust would not interchange with a 79 exhaust
