I was able to find a set of 78 damper rods
They are coming via a gent who had them on ebay. He didn't have the top out springs that you had a photo of/mentioned.
I couldn't find the spring on the 78 parts diagram, but did find the spring on the SR500E . Does this sound right to you?
I haven't been able to find them anywhere so fart

Yes, that's it. It was used on the 650s and the SR500. SR500 forks are pretty much identical to 650 ones. About the only difference is the 500 uses different (softer) springs. You may be able to make some up out of inner valve springs. It may be easier to find one of those (cut it in half to make 2 springs). You need the smaller diameter inner valve spring. The larger outer spring is too big and won't fit inside the fork tube.

Here's an inner valve spring for not too bad a price but they're also accepting offers. Offer them $5, maybe they'll go for it, lol .....
