I have a very early Pamco, one of the first, and it's been trouble-free for over 10 years. Being the early model, it retains the stock mechanical advance, but that hasn't given me any issues either, but I do keep it well lubed. Wear on the advance unit is it's biggest "gotcha". As it wears, the amount it advances increases. Eventually that can over-advance your timing even with the idle timing set right. Then you might hole a piston. I check my timing about once a season just to monitor this situation. I don't expect to find the idle timing setting changed from the last check, and I don't. What I'm more interested in is if the full advance timing has moved, increased into the "danger zone". So far, it's been good, not changing, and that's telling me my advance unit is holding up OK. By keeping it well lubed, I don't think it's worn hardly at all over the years I've had the bike. It was worn a bit when I got the bike but it looks like I've put a stop to that. It was all dry and rusty when I got the bike, lol.
