I’m looking for new foot pegs for my 1980 Special. The rubbers I got from XS650direct 3 years ago have all but disintegrated. Are there any other suppliers that provide better replacement rubber or any pegs from other bikes that would fit my bike?

Originals are best, even used ones. You can still buy them from Yamaha but they're quite expensive. N.O.S. ones pop up on eBay from time to time for a better price. The Yamaha part # on these changed from 1J7-27413-01 to 4L0-27423-00-00. Search either (or both) of those numbers on eBay from time to time.

Patience required, but in time you can find descent or even very nice original take offs. Some guys who custom build have them set aside. Bent, worn, and rusty are easy to find but the challenge is to score nice ones.
Ive upgraded or hoarded over the last couple XS projects. A strategy which works on any parts.

Good luck !

The mounting grommets are also still available but very expensive. Again, the repops are bad. Well worth scrounging good originals for these too.

When either removing or installing the rubber grommets it is very tempting to oil or grease them. I would encourage using soapy water again in this situation. The water evaporates leaving the grommets better stuck in position. More rigidity and less slipping in the end is a much firmer feel.

Thanks gents. I should have been clearer. I’m just looking to replace the foot rest with a new part not the whole assembly. Thinking maybe another model’s foot rest is a direct replacement or an after market foot rest made for an XS650.

Just a guess that several street bikes from the era should interchange.

Keep in mind that if you're looking for a complete peg (metal and rubber cover), they are right- and left-handed. Also, the pivot pin is a rivet install so would need to be drilled or pressed out then replaced with a bolt or re-riveted. Look for rubbers with the metal plate in the bottom .....
