Hard downshift

I seem to be having a hard time down shifting, I have to kinda kick it down to shift down, what adjustment would that be, turn the adjustment screw till it touches the push rod, then turn it in a little further? I got it adjusted good at the handlebars, my hands a little small so I got it adjusted so the reach is not to big, I hope this has nothing to do with the hard down shifting. Thanks!

Could just be a dirty guide boss hole in the left side cover, just behind the shift lever.
During downshift, the shift shaft is pressed downward. Accumulated dirt/grit at the bottom of the hole can bind shifting...
