When you drill your brake rotors, make sure you get ALL the oil off of them (including IN the holes) before reassembling.

I sprayed them down with brake cleaner, but didn't blow through all the newly drilled holes. After about three good stops the oil residue migrated out of the holes and into my brake pads.

Stopping quickly went from mediocre to non-existent.

I'm pretty sure those were the original pads anyway, so after a good THOROUGH cleaning and a fresh set of pads and she'll come REAL close to dragging the front tire under hard braking.

I still intend to do the Brembo mod, but that can wait until this winter.
 
Good tip, Downeaster. Similar cautions when cold-blueing firearms.
But, what they don't tell you is that the steel wool you're using for carding the blue is also oily, and must be degreased.

Sells more blueing that way...
