Oil level- dipstick high, sight glass low.

Quick question.

Checking the oil with the dipstick the level is high. In the sight glass it is low.

I check the dipstick with it unscrewed, sitting on top of the threads.

Both ways with the bike level. Engine is level.

Could it be the wrong year dipstick? Engine is an 82

Crankcase capacity for your bike is 2 liters. Next time you change your oil, put in the two liters and, with the bike vertical and level, after you've started it to distribute oil through the system, wait for the oil to settle in the crankcase, now pull the dipstick and make a notch with a file on the stick at the current level. That's what two liters looks like in your bike and that's the mark you can depend on.
