So long story short I am looking to do something different with my charging system.

I would love to do a pma from hughes, but do too budget constraints I would like to get a little creative.

I have seen the use of a belt drive alternator on a xs650 before, but it is a little more "junkyard" that I want on this bike.

Here is what I am thinking:

regulator, rectifier $30

It is just a small package that I think you could mount it on top of the cover and a small pulley where the rotor is now would work.

ANy thoughts or other ideas?

yea. looks great until your foot melts off from rubbing the pulley. I have been looking for a used PMA set up. found a new banshee flywheel for $40 on ebay. used stator, stator plate and vr and for less than $80. adapter plate from hugh and PMA with good used parts for less than $200

Do a little more research. You can get a mini alternator (Denso), looks just like the GM stuff, on ebay for about 70 bucks shipped. Total of 2 wires needed and self regulating, 35-40 amps. I have 2 of them on Guzzis. Dare to do something everyone else is not doing.
